Screens originated in China, during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). It was the Japanese invention of the hinge that enabled artists to treat the panels as one continuous picture plane. Functional as well as decorative, this artistic format has challenged and intrigued artists throughout the centuries.

I have always liked the phrase "art that earns its keep" in describing art furniture; although I look at a screen as more of a painting than a piece of furniture.

All of my imagery is based on landscapes, with a "science fiction" view.
